The Melicope rubra is a grey barked small tree that is native to northern Queensland, and produces beautiful pink flowers throughout the summer months. Along with small fruits which attract honeyeaters, lorikeets and also ulysses butterflies. The glossy green leaves trifoliate and grow upto 75mm long.
Attracting birds and butterflies with is pretty pink florals, this plant will make a for a stand out feature piece in any garden. Alternatively if the bottom limbs are pruned it can also make for an excellent shade tree in any sized backyard.
The Melicope can grow in both sunny and shady environments in rich organic soil, withstanding many climates, however will become distressed in frosts.
