Lomandra longifolia Matt rush or Basket grass

Fast growing large Australian perenial with erect long strappy blades. Has scented flower spikes in springtime to early summer and summer fruit. Height is up to 1mtr. Hardy can handle drought,frost and is salt tolerant. Is very low maintenance. 

Uses

Makes a great filler for most garden beds, roadside verges, median strip and slope stabilisation. Provides a useful habitat for lizard and beetles. Traditionally used by aborigines for making fine baskets, eel traps, matting and binding for wounds.

Position and soil

Prefers full sun but can handle up to 70 per cent shade, moist conditions.
